Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how the Chrome extension JSON Formatter (“the Extension”) handles information. For privacy questions, contact: rahulverma212131@gmail.com.
2. What the Extension does
The Extension helps users format, minify, validate, and view JSON in a Chrome side panel. It can also open selected text from a web page into the formatter via a context menu.
3. Information we handle
The Extension may handle the following information on your device only:
- JSON text you provide — content you paste, type, or load into the Extension’s input area.
- Selected text — if you use “Format JSON” from the right-click menu, the selected text is temporarily stored in Chrome session storage so the side panel can display it.
- Local preferences — if any settings are saved in the future via Chrome storage, they remain in your browser profile.
The Extension does not collect names, email addresses, payment details, location, browsing history, authentication credentials, or health/financial information.
4. How information is used
- To format, minify, validate, and display JSON for you.
- To pass selected text from a page into the side panel after a context-menu action.
- To provide copy-to-clipboard of the formatted/minified result when you ask for it.
Information is used only to provide these features. It is not used for advertising.
5. Data sharing and selling
We do not sell user data. We do not share JSON content or selected text with third parties, advertisers, or data brokers. The Extension does not send your JSON to our servers because we do not transmit it over the network for processing.
6. Storage and retention
- JSON you paste/type is held in the Extension UI memory while the side panel is in use.
-
Selected text placed via the context menu is stored temporarily with
chrome.storage.sessionand removed after the side panel loads it (or when the browser session ends). - Clearing the Extension input/output removes that content from the UI.
7. Permissions
- sidePanel — shows the formatter UI.
- contextMenus — adds “Format JSON” for selected text.
- storage — temporarily stores selected text for the side panel handoff.
The Extension does not request host permissions to read all websites.
8. Network and remote code
JSON formatting/validation runs locally with built-in browser APIs. The Extension does not execute remote code and does not upload your JSON for formatting.
9. Children’s privacy
The Extension is a general productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the Extension’s data practices change. The effective date at the top will be updated when changes are made.
11. Limited Use disclosure
The use of information received by this Extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. User content handled by the Extension is used only to provide user-facing formatting features and is not transferred or sold for other purposes.
